“Isatou Njie Saidy was the first person who said the shooting started from the students,” he told the Commission.

He said Isatou Njie Saidy, who was in charged of the country while the then president Yahya Jammeh was away, was among those responsible of the brutality of security personnel on students.

Mr. Senghore, who was a student of Essau Senior Secondary School at the time and was shot on the right leg, refuted allegations of students having weapons.

Meanwhile he said when former president Jammeh returned to the country that he visited him and others injured during the protest, adding that the doctors on duty falsely told him that they will all be okay.

“Jammeh gave me a biscuit but I didn’t eat it,” he said.

Mr. Senghore told the TRRC that the Jammeh government denied the victims medical treatment in America because of fears that the Gambian activists there would have used them to expose the brutality of the Jammeh administration.

He said they were taken to Egypt where the medical treatments were not up to standard.

Saine Senghore is the first person to testify on the unfortunate incident of the April 10/11 2000 students protest.
