President Adama Barrow on Sunday held a telephone conversation with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, to discuss recent developments in the Middle East and reaffirm solidarity between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, the conversation took place on Sunday, during which the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Qatar following recent regional tensions.

During the discussion, President Barrow expressed deep concern over what the ministry described as continued attacks by Iran against Qatar.

Speaking in his capacity as Chair of the 15th Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Gambian leader strongly denounced the attacks and conveyed The Gambia’s full solidarity with the government and people of Qatar.

The statement indicated that President Barrow reaffirmed The Gambia’s support for Qatar during this challenging period, emphasizing the importance of unity among member states and the need to protect stability in the region.

In response, Sheikh Tamim expressed his sincere appreciation to President Barrow for reaching out and for The Gambia’s supportive position.

He thanked the Gambian leader for what he described as a principled stance at a time of heightened regional tensions.

Both leaders used the opportunity to stress the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts and preventing further escalation in the Middle East.

They agreed that peaceful engagement remains the most effective way to address tensions and ensure stability in the region.

The two leaders also underscored the need for collective international efforts to promote peace, security, and cooperation, particularly in a period marked by growing geopolitical uncertainty.

In concluding the statement, the Foreign Affairs Ministry reiterated The Gambia’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes and its support for international initiatives aimed at maintaining regional and global stability.
