Dr Tamsir Mbow, former health minister and medical doctor, has told the TRRC on Wednesday that ex-president Yahya Jammeh “cured” HIV/AIDS.

The former health minister was in charge of Jammeh’s controversial alternative treatment programme and ran the day-to-day affairs of the centre. 

“He [Jammeh] used to use two terms: ‘I will eliminate the virus; I will cure the virus’. He eliminated the HIV virus and he cured the HIV/AIDS virus,” Dr Mbowe told the TRRC on Wednesday. 

Dr Mbowe questioned the credibility of the former patients who had criticised the treatment programme.

“They were praising Jammeh that you are the best person, thanking him yesterday and today what they are saying today is different. That is a completely different thing,” he said.
