The Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency has called on the public to support them by sharing information on drug dealers and traffickers with the agency.

The agency’s plea was made after it seized over two tons of cocaine at the port worth over D4.5 billion. 

The discovery and seizure is the largest drug bust in the history of the country. This has sparked public concern as to the level of drug trafficking in the country. 

“Our collective safety is the responsibility of everybody. If you see something, you say something because law enforcement cannot be everywhere and at every time. 

“So, we try to have people across but what we have always been calling on is public support and sharing of information especially on suspicious activities to law enforcement,” DLEA spokesman Ousman Saidybah said. 

He added: “But even the countries that have all these they still reply on human intelligence and this is where everybody has to know and understand.”

The officials said all the four containers were shipped by ECU Worldwide Ecuador SA and consigned to Bollore Transport and Logistics as their local partner.

Businessman Banta Keita, owner of the containers, is on the run following the drugs seizure. His accomplice Sheriff Njie is in custody helping police in their investigation.
