The Ministry of Heath has announced the fifth coronavirus death in the country.

“One new death recorded, bringing to 5 the total number of COVID-19 related deaths reported so far – this represents a crude case fatality rate of 3.8%,” the Health ministry said.

The announcement comes at the back of a surge in coronavirus cases. On Monday the country registered 20 new cases, the highest reported in a single day.

The total coronavirus cases in the country is 132. 

Eight of the 20 new cases are health workers from the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Medical Research Council and the WHO Gambia office.
