The Gambia’s stock of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine has run out, health officials said.

The Ministry of Health in a statement said: “those who received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and are eligible for the second dose that they will subsequently receive their due doses as soon as it becomes available.”

It added: “any delay in receiving the second dose would not have any negative consequences on individuals and therefore would not need to start fresh the vaccinations.”

The ministry said those who received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine would not need to receive a different vaccine apart from AstraZeneca.

Meanwhile the Medicine Control Agency of the Gambia has given authorisation for the use of the Chinese SinoPharm Covid-19 vaccine following WHO’s approval of the vaccine under emergency.

The Ministry of Health plans to roll out SinoPharm Covid-19 vaccine in the West Coast Radio and Greater Banjul Area from 5 July 2021.
