Top officials of Kanifing Municipal Council and Newcastle County have inked a developmental partnership.

The deal covers waste management, parks and recreation, urban farming, affordable housing, climate change and green technology.

The US delegation is in Gambia for a week-long visit to build bilateral relationship with Kanifing Municipal Council. 

Newcastle County is home to 560,000 Americans in the US state of Delaware.

“A great day for KM as County Executive Matthew Meyer signs a proclamation declaring July 8th as Kanifing Municipal Council Day in Newcastle County, Delaware. 

“Mr Matthew Meyer also honoured me with a ‘challenge coin’ to always remind me of the virtues of honesty, transparency and efficiency in leadership,” Ahmed Talib Bensouda, mayor of Kanifing said.

They both committed to strengthening the bond between the people of Kanifing Municipality and Newcastle County and pledged to work together in all areas of development.

“Today I gave the keys to the municipality to Matthew Meyer, County Executive of Newcastle County in Delaware State USA,” Talib added.

Mr Meyer and his delegation including the Vice President of DACC (Delaware Africa Caribbean Coalition) Hagi Dukureh visited the Bakoteh Dumpsite before they proceeded to Bakoteh Fish Market and the Bakau Women’s Garden.
