The National Assembly member for Latrikunda Sabiji has urged Gambians especially youth to seek vocational training as there are plenty of jobs in the country.

Saikouba Marong claimed there are lots of jobs in the country if only Gambian youths acquired the right skills training.

The Gambia’s youth unemployment currently stands at 41.5%.

But the lawmaker told a graduating tailoring class in Latrikunda Sabiji that some people just don’t want to be engaged in work.

Mr Marong said: “most of the time I will pass people in the ‘vous’ saying there is no work in the Gambia. I say [to them] there is a job in The Gambia.”

He called on the nation’s education ministry to support technical training in both lower and higher education levels to help minimise the plight of high school graduates.
