The National Assembly has begun an investigation into the sale and disposal of assets linked to former President Yahya Jammeh.
The Special Select Committee, tasked with this inquiry, convened for its first session on Wednesday, 21 May 2025, to review its Strategic Workplan.
In a statement, the Committee outlined its commitment to conducting a “transparent, impartial, and evidence-based inquiry”, which would guide its operations and proceedings moving forward.
The Strategic Workplan sets the foundation for the investigation, detailing the committee’s mandate and objectives as it seeks to uncover the full extent of the asset transactions associated with Jammeh.
The inquiry follows recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry into the financial activities of public bodies, enterprises, and offices.
This commission, established after Jammeh’s departure from office, scrutinized the financial dealings of various public entities, particularly those involving the former president.
The Special Select Committee’s task is to further investigate the sale and disposal of assets identified in the Commission’s report, many of which are believed to have been misappropriated during Jammeh’s rule.
The committee’s work is expected to shed light on potentially illegal transactions and ensure accountability in the management of public assets.
