Dr Lamin Sise, chairman of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission has reaffirmed his team’s commitment to wrapping up work, saying they are on their final phase of national duty.

“As we resume our public hearings, the Commission assures the Gambian public and our international partners that it remains fully inspired, committed and determined to complete the mandate entrusted to it and to submit its final report and recommendations sometime in 2021.

“As we embark upon this final phase of our work, we as usual, continue to crave the public’s support and blessing,” he said as the commission begun its public hearings after a long hiatus due to the coronavirus outbreak.

President Adama Barrow in 2017 launched a truth commission to look into the 22-year rule of former President Yahya Jammeh, whose regime had been accused by rights organisations of committing human rights violations.
