The Gambia Police Force will this Friday graduate 40 personnel trained on counter protest at the PIU headquarters in Kanifing.

The batch made up of personnel from the Police Intervention Unit are being trained by French Police.

Couple of weeks back, the Gambia government bought a water cannon truck to be deployed in the event of a protest or riot.

And last Saturday the Interior Minister, Ebrima Mballow told a political rally in Brikama 35 kilometres south of Banjul that “the water cannon truck will be used on protesters.”

According to him, the water cannon truck will be used to spray “hot water on people who protest”.

However, some Gambians are preparing for the December protest which aimed at pressuring President Adama Barrow to honour the MOU agreements and step down after his 3 years in office.

But the President said he is not stepping down and will complete his full five year term in office which runs until the next presidential election in 2021.
