One Sight, a United States-based vision organisation, has signed a 3-year partnership with Shiekh Zayyid Eye Centre to open an eye clinic in each of the seven regions of the Gambia.
The president and executive director of the organisation, KT Overbey, disclosed during a press conference at Serekunda Genera Hospital on Friday June 28.
Ms Overbey assured of her organisation’s commitment to ensuring that all Gambians have access to quality and affordable vision care.
The organisation has also expanded its centres to ten countries across the world.
“We have opened over 130 vision centres and by the end of this year, we hope to be able to provide access to over 38 million people around the world,” she said.
Dr Abba Hydara, an eye specialist at Sheikh Zayyid Eye Centre, expressed delight in the One Sight partnership.
“Sheikh Zayyid is very very grateful for this partnership – it has empowered us to maintain our position as the leading eye care centre in the Gambia,” he said.
