File picture: The remains of a house gutted by fire

Two houses in Wellingara, a suburb of the Greater Banjul Area, have been burned down by an intense fire.

The fire, according to family members, destroyed their entire belongings including clothes and food items.

No causality was caused by the blaze.

It’s believed that the fire started at a tailoring shop before engulfing the houses.

Mamma Banja, a victim, said the fire destroyed all their belongings and has made life unbearable for them.

“It started at a tailoring shop which engulfed the houses and burnt them down to ashes,” she said.

Ms Banja thanked her neighbours and the Fire Services for their efforts in putting out the fire.

She appealed for support and help from the government, philanthropist and donors.
