A man found dead in his car on Wednesday afternoon has been identified as Dr Momodou Darboe, a research scientist at the MRC Unit-the Gambia.
Dr. Darboe, in his 50s, was found dead in a parked Honda on the Latrikunda Sabiji-Brikama highway.
The circumstances of his death is unclear but it is not being treated as suspicious.
Tributes, by his heartbroken friends and loved ones, have poured in on social media.
His brother, a youth affairs councillor at Mansa Konko, Karim Y. Darboe wrote: “Dr Momodou Darboe of MRC was a great man, determined and hard-working. He was a great Muslim and doesn’t disturb people at all.
“He helped a lot of people via his work. My family is seriously devastated and shocked. We lost a strong pillar in our family.”
A former colleague, Sulayman Gajigo, wrote: “The Gambia has lost a great scientist, a man highly dedicated to the fight against malnutrition.
“He was among the few nutritionists The Gambia was blessed with. Many other Gambians who knew him said Mr Darboe was a decent human being whose work and nature was devoted to helping the advancement of science and the well-being of Gambians.”
