A teenager has died and at least four people injured after a fuel tanker exploded in Jalabang, the nation’s disaster agency has said.
The blast happened on Tuesday afternoon and nearby buildings were destroyed.
The teenager has been identified as Kawsu Kassama.
“It is understood that a local petrol dealer operating from a household had a petrol tanker in the premises to offload fuel and after the spark, the inferno that ensued became uncontrollable.
“The blaze has resulted in damage to property, injuries and even a fatality. Thus far, four vehicles were scorched, four individuals sustained injuries and a teenager named Kawsu Kassama lost his life,” disaster agency said.
“The entire staff and management at NDMA would like to convey our deepest condolences to the Kassama family. May Allah grant him Jannatul-Firdaus,” it added.
Meanwhile, Brikama Area Council also sent its sympathy to the victims’ families.
It said in a statement: “Our condolence and thoughts with the deceased and victims of the fire outbreak.The Management wish to sincerely express its sincere condolence to the Family of the teenager (Kawsu Kassama) who died in the inferno.
“Furthermore, our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims for a speedy and total recovery. Once again, we want to implore businesses and individuals dealing in fuel to strictly adhere to safety measures to avoid substantial risk and damage to lives and properties.”
