Youths Against Environmental Degradation embark on Saturday (September 25) embarked on a tree planting exercise in Niamina Dankunku.
The exercise was to increase the number of trees in the area as a measure to mitigate climate change.
A total number of 250 seedlings were planted in the community.
School children were also given seedlings to plant in their homes.
Bakary J Janneh, president of the organisation, expressed his gratitude to the sponsor of the event Sulayman Mboge.
He thanked his team members, the Lady councillor of Niamina Dankunku Ward and the staff of Dankunku Upper Basic and Senior Secondary School for for their support during the event.
He also thanked the forest officer of the village for his technical assistance.
Students were informed about the importance of trees in not just mitigating climate change and its impacts but also influence the creation of microclimate effects and protection of the environment from soil erosion and loss of nutrients.
The organisation says it is optimistic that the trees planted would be taken good care of.
Meanwhile Janneh also stated that his Organization Youths Against Environmental Degradation plans to plant one million trees in the next five years.
