A Gambian mother has asked a court to jail her “violent” son after he attempted to stab her with a knife.

She told Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday that her son, identified in court as Abdoulie, is usually violent to her and act strangely after smoking marijuana.

She said last month, her son ran into her room with a knife trying to stab her. 

According to the mother, Abdoulie was stoned and acted violently towards her. She tried to take the knife from him but she couldn’t and during the struggle, her other son came to her rescue. 

She said the knife was taken away from him but he managed to run away from the house. 

The matter was reported to the police who later arrested and charged him with one count of threatening violence. 

The mother begged the court to send his son to Mile 2 Prison as his drug use and violent actions are causing her sleepless nights.
