The Gambia’s minister of information, Dr Ismaila Ceesay, has said that the country’s economy has improved significantly under the Barrow administration, claiming the country’s economy has grown by 5.9% since assuming office in 2017.
According to the Gambia Bureau of Statistics 2020 report, the country’s poverty rate was 53.4%, which stood at 1,441,800.
In response to Gambia For All criticism, Dr Cessay described the party as trying to be relevant.
“The Gambia is one of the most progressive countries in the sub region when it comes to fiscal and monetary policy. Our economy is growing. We’ve controlled inflation. Our debt ratio has gone down. Our debt to GDP ratio has gone up from 85% to 65%. Inflation has gone down to almost 10%,” he said.
“Our economy is growing to 5.9 by the end of the year. So for me, I think what these people are saying, whether it’s GFA or I’m not even sure, what that entity is,” he added.
