President Adama Barrow has announced his willingness to sit down with his former political godfather and now nemesis Lawyer Ousainou Darboe and address their political differences.

Their relationship has been strained since Mr Barrow fired Darboe and some cabinet ministers in 2019. He did not give any reason for their removal.

In an interview, Barrow described Darboe as his political godfather highlighting his significant role in the country’s political landscape.

“I am willing to engage Ousainou Darboe directly,” he said, emphasising that he had worked with Darboe as an executive member of the United Democratic Party for more than a decade.

“He is my political godfather, and I have respect for him. He is also a stakeholder in Gambian politics,” he added.

Barrow’s call for reconciliation with Darboe comes amid calls for him to step down from contesting the upcoming presidential election. However, Barrow has announced that he intends to seek a third term in 2026.
