The Gambia Police Force has directed its traffic officers to take action against rogue drivers found illegally increasing fare.
According to the police, some drivers operating on the Serekunda-Brikama route have reportedly raised fares to between D50 and D100 – well above the approved rates.
“The GPF strongly condemns this unlawful practice, which unfairly burdens commuters.
“All officers stationed on roads and checkpoints are hereby instructed to monitor compliance and take appropriate action against violators,” police said.
Police urged public to report any instances of overcharging to the nearest police station and be ready to be witnesses.
