The Gambia government has launched an investigation following the death in custody of Brigadier General Bora Colley

Colley passed away last night while in detention at Yundum Barracks. He was 61 years old.

The late army general was battling an unspecified ailment since he returned to the country in 2024. He was among senior army officers who fled with Jammeh in 2017 when he lost to President Adama Barrow.

His death has sparked questions from Jammeh’s loyalists. They are calling for investigation into the general’s death.

In response, the government has asked for a coroner’s inquest to ascertain the cause of death.

“The Hon. Attorney General and Minister of Justice has applied to Hon. of the Chief Justice for an inquest to be conducted pursuant to the Coroner’s Act in respect of the Deceased who died while in the custody of the Armed Forces,” a statement from the army stated.
