Police have arrested and detained a man accused of attacking presidential adviser and deputy campaign manager of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Momodou Sabally, during an event in Brikama.
Mr Sabally alleged that he and his entourage were attacked by supporters of the United Democratic Party (UDP) while attending the inauguration of street lights sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The UDP has yet to respond to the allegations.
Speaking exclusively to Gambiana, acting police public relations officer, Cadet Inspector Sainabou Manjang, confirmed the arrest but declined to disclose the suspect’s identity.
“Brikama CID is investigating an alleged assault involving Kabba Jabang, also known as ‘Minister,’ following a complaint by Momodou Sabally, Special Adviser to the President.
“Jabang, who had earlier evaded arrest, turned himself in and denied any involvement, claiming he was filming a council-led event when tensions arose with the Governor’s team.
“He said an altercation broke out but denied seeing anyone assault Sabally. Jabang has been cautioned and detained at Banjulinding Police Station as investigations continue,” she said.
However, Gambiana has reliably confirmed that the man in question is indeed Kabba Jabang, popularly known as “Minister”.
