President Adama Barrow has criticised his detractors, saying that many of them were in hiding during the regime of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.
Barrow made the remarks during a meeting with the Gambian Mandinka Society at the State House. The group pledged their unwavering support for Barrow and condemned all forms of verbal attacks against his government.
In his address, Barrow highlighted his role in restoring the country’s long-lost democracy and ensuring the safe return of many Gambians who fled during Jammeh’s reign of terror.
“Many of those criticising me today were in hiding, and some even fled the country to live abroad. My victory in 2016 brought them back. But now, they are the ones running radio stations and insulting President Adama Barrow,” he said.
He went on to accuse certain media owners of using their platforms to attack and insult him, though he did not name them.
He added: “They are the ones going on the radio, making bold statements and criticising my government, yet they were all hiding during Jammeh’s regime.”
