Police have denied Gambia Against Looted Assets a permit to hold a protest. The group is demanding the full list of buyers of assets belonging to former Gambian president Yahya Jammeh.

The group was formed following the publication of The Republic’s investigative article, which alleges gross corruption in the sale of Jammeh’s looted assets. They applied for a protest permit on Tuesday, but police denied the request on Wednesday.

Despite the rejection, the group says they remain determined to hold the protest.

In response to the denial, Mamadi Kurang, a senior member of the group, expressed disappointment with the Barrow government.

“I am totally disappointed with Barrow’s ‘democratic’ government. The IGP sent us this letter. Peaceful assembly is a right guaranteed by the Constitution,” he said.
