Ebrima Jallow, also known as Ghetto Pen, has reportedly gone on hunger strike after allegedly being assaulted by police officers while in custody, resulting in a head injury.
The incident follows Jallow’s involvement in a peaceful demonstration on Thursday, where he, along with 26 other youths, called for the publication of individuals who bought assets linked to former President Yahya Jammeh.
Marr Nyang, the founder of civil society group Gambia Participate, confirmed the development on social media.
“Ebrima Jallow, who was assaulted last night by police officers while in custody, sustained a head injury and is currently on a hunger strike.
He is in a critical state of mind. Whatever happens to our youths, accountability will follow. Kanifing South youths, I don’t need to say more!,” Nyang said.
