President Adama Barrow

In the ever-evolving arena of politics, the way we communicate can take on many forms, and sometimes, silence can resonate even more than words. Recently, we’ve witnessed an interesting moment as the National People’s Party (NPP) has chosen not to respond to the statements made by former President Yahya Jammeh.

As he makes headlines with his return to the APRC and ambitious plans to re-engage in politics, Jammeh has made some striking assertions. Yet, the NPP, under President Adama Barrow’s leadership, has remained notably quiet.

This is particularly intriguing given that the NPP has a strong political communication team, which includes Ous Keita, Sulayman Camara, Pa Saikou Kujabi, Yaya Dampha Di Mansa Kujabi, and Ahmad Gitteh. With talented advisers on board, they’re well-equipped to engage in meaningful discussions, promote their agenda, and counteract criticism. Momodou Sabally, a prominent political adviser known for his remarkable writing and oratory skills, has often stepped up to defend the government against detractors like Essa Faal from the Sobeya Party. His assertive nature in political discourse makes the current silence surrounding Jammeh all the more puzzling.

It raises the question: What’s behind this quietude? Is it possible that Sabally, having once served under Jammeh, is cautious about publicly addressing a former superior? It’s definitely a conundrum, especially since he’s typically outspoken on various political matters.

The NPP’s decision to refrain from commenting on Jammeh’s remarks isn’t merely a strategic choice; it’s something that has captured the attention of the public. The Gambian people deserve reassurance about their safety and security, especially considering Jammeh’s controversial past.

In these moments, clear communication is key. Remaining silent could inadvertently give off a sense of vulnerability or allow for misunderstandings about the government’s commitment to maintaining stability and the rule of law.

Additionally, it’s essential to ensure that engagement isn’t selective. The government should address all political narratives and criticisms with equal decisiveness, regardless of the source. Ignoring Jammeh could unintentionally empower him and his followers, complicating an already dynamic political landscape.

In summary, the NPP finding themselves at a juncture where silence reigns in response to Yahya Jammeh does present a significant opportunity. This moment calls for a thoughtful and proactive response to affirm their dedication to the Gambian citizens and the principles of democracy.

Engaging with these challenges head-on will showcase the NPP’s strength and commitment, ensuring that the wellbeing of the population remains at the forefront of their agenda.

After all, addressing the voices of all political players is essential for fostering a vibrant and healthy democracy. Here’s to hoping for an engaging response that reinforces public confidence and the rule of law going forward!
