National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala Almameh Gibba has taken a veiled swipe at President Adama Barrow, describing a leader who makes “comedy” in remarks delivered shortly after former President Yahya Jammeh picked him to lead the APRC splinter group, No To Alliance.

Gibba, who is among the outspoken critics of the Barrow administration in the Foni area, said the movement intended to unite Gambians and address what he described as growing political polarisation under the current government.

“We are here to unite people, we see one and we want to salvage Gambia. We don’t know a leader who makes comedy and who inuend,” Gibba told reporters.

He also claimed that No To Alliance had attracted genuine supporters of Jammeh, popularly known as “Babili Mansa”, pointing to the turnout at the gathering as evidence of the movement’s support.

“We want to show people that power belongs to the people. No To Alliance has taken all the votes. Just see the turnout. People have turned out in their numbers, all are genuine supporters of Babili Mansa,” he said.

Gibba’s emergence as leader of the splinter group places him in a prominent position within the movement as political activity builds ahead of the December 5, 2026 presidential election.

However, it remains unclear whether No To Alliance will contest the election independently or align with another political group.

The ruling party has also vowed to challenge Gibba’s position in the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 parliamentary elections.
