The chairman of Brikama Area Council Yankuba Darboe has said that the embattled chief executive officer, Modou Jonga, has embezzled a lot of the council’s funds.

Mr Darboe made the allegation against Jonga after the council’s councillors took up matters in their own hands by forcefully intercepting Jonga from accessing his office which resulted in the arrest of the councillors, who are now placed under investigation by the police.

Jonga has been grossly accused of embezzling millions of dalasis from BAC’s coffers during the tenure of Sheriffo Sonko, allegations he denied.

Speaking to reporters in a news conference, chairman Darboe said: “We [have] made our decisions backed by justifiable and reasonable grounds that the CEO we have at BAC cannot be allowed to continue as a CEO of this council. He had already done so much damage to this council. He embezzled a lot of funds and it’s not fair for him to continue to act and to do any function as CEO of this council.”

According to him, the council has been very peaceful and has been doing things according to the laws of the country. However, he accused the ministry of local government of interference in BAC’s ongoing saga.

“What the ministry is doing is interfering in the running of the council. This council has been very peaceful from the onset,” he added.
