A Senegalese man, accused of armed robbery in the Gambian village of Ballanghar Kerr Nderry, has been arraigned before the Banjul Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Amadou Ba, faces two charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, contrary to Section 368 of the Criminal Code, and robbery with violence, contrary to Section 273(2) of the Criminal Code.

The court heard that Ba was arrested last month after being shot in the leg by villagers. He was found hiding in a groundnut store the next morning before being handed over to the police.

One of his accomplices was shot dead during an exchange of fire with the villagers, while another suspect remains at large. During cross-examination, Ba told the court that they were a group of five.

Under Gambian law, armed robbery carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.
