President Adama Barrow

President Adama Barrow has filled two key cabinet positions that have been vacant for months, naming Dr. Habibatou Drammeh as Minister of Basic and Secondary Education and Lamin Jabbi as Minister of Communication and Digital Economy.

The appointments were announced following a statement from the Office of the President, which highlighted the constitutional basis for the changes.

“In accordance with Section 71 (3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency the President has appointed Dr Habibatou Drammeh as the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education and Mr Lamin Jabbi as the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy,” the statement read.

Dr. Habibatou Drammeh replaces Claudiana Cole, who was relieved of her duties earlier this year and has since been reassigned to the foreign service. Her new portfolio will see her overseeing the nation’s educational system, focusing on advancing both basic and secondary education standards.

Lamin Jabbi takes over from Ousman Bah, who was dismissed from the cabinet due to his dual citizenship status.

As Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Jabbi is expected to spearhead initiatives to modernise The Gambia’s digital infrastructure and improve communication services.
