President Adama Barrow has congratulated Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on assuming the rotating chairmanship of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The message was delivered on Thursday by The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sering Modou Njie, during an audience with President Faye at the Presidential Palace in Dakar.

According to the Senegalese Presidency, Minister Njie conveyed President Barrow’s message of friendship, peace and fraternity, while also congratulating Faye on his new regional role and on the appointment of General Birame Diop as President of the ECOWAS Commission.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the strong bilateral ties between Senegal and The Gambia, built on shared history, culture and good neighbourliness.

They reiterated their commitment to deepening cooperation in support of regional integration, peace, stability and the welfare of the peoples of Senegambia.
