President Adama Barrow has summoned an emergency cabinet meeting to address growing public concern over the sale of assets previously owned by former President Yahya Jammeh.

A statement from the State House confirmed that the meeting was held on Tuesday to review issues surrounding the disposal of Jammeh’s confiscated properties, amid mounting calls for greater transparency and accountability.

The move comes in the wake of widespread street protests in Banjul and other areas, where demonstrators demanded full disclosure of how the assets were sold and who the beneficiaries were.

At least 27 young protesters were arrested during the demonstration, which authorities later labelled an unauthorised gathering. They were released after 72 hours in custody, following intense public pressure and condemnation from civil society.

In response to the outcry, the government published a list of individuals and companies who purchased the assets—part of a broader effort to reassure the public and reaffirm its commitment to transparency.
