President Adama Barrow has highlighted the shared experiences of The Gambia and Gabon in rebuilding national institutions and restoring public confidence, as he welcomed Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on a State Visit to Banjul.
Addressing his Gabonese counterpart at the State House, President Barrow said both countries understand the challenges of rebuilding nations after periods of political uncertainty, stressing that peace, stability and development require deliberate efforts and strong leadership.

He described Gabon’s recent transition and efforts towards national reconstruction as a journey that resonates with The Gambia’s own experience following its political transition in 2017.
President Barrow said both countries have chosen the path of strengthening institutions, promoting reconciliation and restoring hope among their citizens.
“Gabon’s story in recent years is one that resonates deeply with us here in The Gambia,” Barrow said, noting that rebuilding public trust and national confidence remains a major responsibility for African leaders.
The Gambian leader praised President Oligui Nguema’s leadership since assuming office, saying Gabon has embarked on a path of renewal and development under his administration.

Barrow said the State Visit provides an opportunity for both countries to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, sustainable management of natural resources, regional peace and security, and South-South cooperation.
Although Gabon and The Gambia are geographically distant, President Barrow said the two nations share common aspirations and challenges, adding that their relationship should be built on friendship, solidarity and collective development.
The visit marks a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two countries, with both leaders expected to discuss ways of expanding cooperation in political, economic and social sectors.
President Oligui Nguema’s visit to The Gambia runs from July 31 to August 2, 2026, and is aimed at strengthening the longstanding ties between Banjul and Libreville.
