Gambian President Adama Barrow has once again called for unity among the citizens of The Gambia, highlighting his government’s commitment to developing the nation.

Barrow’s message came as he kicked off a 19-day nationwide tour, as enshrined in the country’s constitution, aimed at engaging citizens and addressing their concerns across the country.

A large crowd of supporters gathered at the Banjul ferry terminal to see Barrow off as he embarked on his journey to the Niumi region, where he held his first meeting in the Jokadu area.

Before boarding the ferry, Barrow spoke to a group of reporters, emphasising the importance of national unity and peace as key pillars for the country’s development.

He stressed that without these foundational values, the goals of progress and growth would remain unattainable.

“We want Gambians to be united,” he said. “There will be no development without unity.”

The President further underscored the necessity for collective effort, saying, “We want all hands on deck to move this country forward. That’s our message, and the message is very, very clear. My government is more than willing and ready to work with the Gambian people to develop this country.”

Barrow reiterated that dialogue was the best path forward for the nation, emphasising that his government is committed to being responsive and tolerant. “We are a government that listens, and we’re a government that’s very tolerant,” he added.

The nationwide tour, which follows the constitutional mandate of the president to engage with citizens, will provide Barrow with the opportunity to meet people from different walks of life, hear their concerns, and address pressing issues related to governance and development.
