Musa Yali Batchilly, leader of Gambia Action Party, has called on President Adama Barrow to immediately set up a panel to investigate the Banjul road project contractor after the city was flooded over the weekend.
Barrow in 2019 launched a $35.5 million (1.8 billion dalasi) project to rehabilitate Banjul that was meant to construct roads, sewage and the drainage system for the city.
However, Batchilly expressed concerns about the project after parts of the city was submerged in flood waters on Saturday.
“I am urging the president to set up an investigation panel immediately. The 40 million dollars he gave to that contractor, 2 billion dalasis plus, can’t that contractor see ways before constructing roads to find possibilities to get a drainage system,” he said.
“Mr President, with due respect have you asked your team to check with the contractor-built drainage system? You should summon the contractor immediately and question him and if he fails you imprison him.
“There should be no compromise and I urge you to investigate the contractor. Why would he play with people’s lives,” he added.
