Ousainou Darboe, leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has called on the country’s security chiefs to address the rise in crimes during the festive season.
The former Vice President of The Gambia expressed his concerns in a twitter post yesterday saying the number of violent attacks is “worrisome”.
“The security of Gambians is a concern for all of us, I am appealing to the security chiefs to make sure measures are put in place to secure people during these festive season. The number of stories of attacks I have heard is worrisome,” Mr. Darboe said.
The rise in crimes since the ousting of the country’s former strongman Yahya Jammeh has been of concerns to many Gambians.
Violent crimes and vigilante mob attacks are on the increase in alarming rate. Recently a taxi driver was apprehended in Banjul for a spate of crimes including kidnapping, rape and extortion of vulnerable women in the Greater Banjul Area. And also an angry mob in Busumbala this month attacked two brothers who were falsely accused of child trafficking.
