Ousainou Darboe, leader of the opposition United Democratic Party, has warned that President Adama Barrow could lose the land given to him by the state once a new government takes over.

Barrow and his government have faced public backlash over a plot of land given to him by the state in Fajara. The state however insisted that the president is entitled to be given a land for his retirement home.

However, speaking at a United Democratic Party’s Yellow Day in Brikama, Mr. Darboe said: “The plot was stolen by them. My advice to you (President Barrow) is: stop any development on that land because that is in your own interest. Because if you continue with any development on that land – government asset that you converted to your own property – you may lose it if there is a change [of government]. Already, you have been warned that this should not go on.”

“I ask all Gambians to rise up and say that this appropriation of government property has to be rescinded and let the property revert back to the government of The Gambia,” he added.
