Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, minister of information, has refuted claims that he referred to President Adama Barrow as a “clueless”leader during his time in opposition.
He said that he was misquoted and emphasised that he has never personally attacked anyone.
“I have never said Barrow is clueless,” Dr. Ceesay said, adding “In that interview, I was analysing the state of the nation six months after the coalition government was formed. I expressed concern about the governance, stating that it seemed directionless.”
Dr. Ceesay has been vocal in his criticism of Barrow’s leadership style since the coalition took power. His remarks drew significant backlash, prompting him to establish a political party with other prominent Gambians.
“I believe the media selectively quoted me, taking my comments out of context. There is no audio or evidence where I have gone personal against anyone.”
In 2021, Dr. Ceesay’s political ambitions faced a setback when the Independent Electoral Commission disqualified him from running, citing insufficient voter support as per their regulations.
