The embattled chief executive officer of Kanifing Municipal Council Sainabou Martin Sonko has been barred entry into the council offices by KMC security officers.

Ms Sonko is accused of being involved in a D12 million corruption scandal. Police have opened an independent investigation into the matter.

The KMC mayor suspended her pending the outcome of the investigation.

But the government through its Ministry of Local Government in a statement asked the council to rescind its decision describing the action as “illegal”.

The ministry asked that she be allowed back to work amid an investigation by the ministry.

The council despite confirming barring Ms Sonko from entry is yet to give its reasons.
