Ferry passengers today complained about their ordeal after it took two hours to ply the route between Banjul and Barra.

The Kanilai ferry departed Banjul at 7:30 and arrived in Barra at 10:45, a journey that usually takes 45 minutes.

But what triggered passengers anger was when another ferry Kunta Kinteh which was travelling the opposite direction from Barra to Banjul covered the route in 45 minutes.

It took passengers to Banjul and came back to overtake Kanilai ferry to disembark passengers in Barra.

“This is disgraceful,” a passenger who sits beside me said.

“It’s better to even take the risk and board the wooden boats than wasting your time on this dead ferry,” another man in touban said.

“Captain, you’re not fair and serious,” a boy in red jumper shouted.

The ferry service has been at the centre of complaints among commuters of the Banjul-Barra route.

They want better service from the authorities and called for unseaworthy ferries to be decommissioned.

The ferry service has been contacted for comment.
