The Gambia government has announced an increase in the retail pump prices of petroleum products for August 2026, citing rising international fuel prices.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines said the new prices were approved following the conclusion of the monthly fuel price review and will take effect from 1 August 2026.
Under the revised pricing, petrol (PMS) will now sell at D104.18 per litre, diesel (AGO) at D116.63 per litre, while kerosene will retail at D99.62 per litre.
The ministry said the increase compared with July prices was primarily driven by higher international reference prices for refined petroleum products during the current pricing cycle.
It explained that the monthly fuel price review is conducted under the government’s petroleum pricing framework, which considers several factors, including international refined petroleum product prices, import costs, exchange rates, statutory taxes and levies, as well as other applicable pricing components.
According to the ministry, these variables are assessed every month before new pump prices are determined.
The ministry said it will continue to monitor developments in the international oil market and make further adjustments whenever necessary in line with the established pricing mechanism.
Fuel price adjustments have become a regular feature under the government’s monthly review system, with local pump prices largely influenced by fluctuations in global oil markets and movements in the exchange rate.
The latest increase means motorists, transport operators and businesses will face higher fuel costs from the start of August, a development that could have implications for transportation fares and the prices of goods and services across the country.
The Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines said it remains committed to applying the pricing framework transparently while responding to changes in international market conditions.
