
Gambia’s Foreign Minister Dr Mamadou Tangara met with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, in Cairo on Saturday to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as the two countries marked 60 years of diplomatic relations.
Minister Abdelatty recalled Egypt’s early recognition of Gambia’s independence in 1965, underscoring the historical ties between the nations.
Talks focused on enhancing collaboration in agriculture, fisheries, health, and education, with both sides pledging to boost investment and private sector engagement.
The ministers also discussed the planned opening of a Gambian embassy in Cairo. Abdelatty conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to President Adama Barrow, with Tangara delivering a reciprocal message.
