Gambia squandered a 2-0 lead as the Harambee Stars William Wilson scored a last-gasp stoppage-time equaliser to rescue a point for Kenya in a dramatic 3-3 draw in the Group World Cup qualifiers.

The Scorpions had a wonderful opportunity to take the lead in the first half when the Harambee Stars goalkeeper, Ian Otieno, brought down Alieu Fadera in the box for a penalty. However, Musa Barrow stepped up to execute the penalty and failed to score.

Musa Barrow made amends for his penalty miss with a brilliant golazo goal from the outside of Kenya’s 18-yard box that hit the top corner of the net just 10 minutes after recess.

Yankuba Minteh made it 2-0 for Gambia six minutes later with a moment of individual brilliance to go passed the Kenyan defender before unleashing a shot with his weaker right foot to find the top corner.

Benni McCarthy boys capitalised on the Scorpion’s sloppy defending to score in the 69 and 75 minutes to restore parity for the Kenyans. Michael Olunga reduced the deficits to 2-1 from the penalty spot when Momodou Lion Njie’s clumsy play was adjudged as a penalty. Mohammed Bajaber scored a fantastic curler in the 75 minutes to draw Kenya levelled on 2-2.

Musa Barrow thought he had scored a winner for coach Johnathan McKinstry’s men when he combined with Abdoulie Ceesay to score a sublime goal in the 85 minutes but William Wilson scored with almost the last kick of the match to rescue a point for the Harambee Stars right at the death.
