The Gambia Navy has intercepted a vessel carrying suspected migrants attempting to travel to Europe, during a routine patrol off the country’s coast.
The operation was carried out by the Navy’s patrol ship, HSB Seadog, which is currently escorting the intercepted boat back to the Naval Base in Banjul.
Authorities have yet to confirm the number of people on board or the boat’s exact destination. An investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances of the attempted voyage.

The incident comes amid heightened concern over irregular migration via West Africa’s coastline. The Gambia remains a key departure and transit hub for migrants embarking on dangerous sea journeys toward Europe, often in overcrowded and unseaworthy boats.
In response, security forces have intensified patrols to combat human trafficking and enhance maritime security.
