Gambia U20 defender Dembo Saidykhan has signed a two-year contract with Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Canada’s Major League Soccer.

Saidykhan‘s deal comes barely three months after contract talks were opened as some of his colleagues joined other European clubs.

“Happy to announce that our defender Dembo Saidykhan has finally left the country to join his new club Vancouver Whitecaps”, his former club Steve Biko announced.

Dembo was a key player in Coach Abdoulie Bojang’s youth team that helped the Gambia excel at the WAFU, AFCON and the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina.

His heroic performance has earned him a contract to join the Caps on a two-year deal.

Vancouver are sixth on the Western Conference standings with 48 points after 34 matches and two adrift of Real Salt Lake.

He is expected to travel soon to Canada to join his new club.
