Gambia football coach Jonathan McKinstry

Jonathan McKinstry, the head coach of the Gambian football team, has expressed disappointment over the poor results collected by the team in their World Cup qualifiers against Ivory Coast last night.

The Gambia’s World Cup hopes were dashed after the team managed to secure only 4 points in six matches.

McKinstry, who is only eight months into the role, has raised concerns among Gambian football fans and some pundits. While taking over from Tom Saintfiet, who quit after leading the team to two Africa Cup of Nations qualifications, praise and hope for Jonathan are shrinking as Gambian football fans have yet to see the expected results from the 38-year-old coach.

In his response to the game’s outcome, McKinstry hailed the team’s performance despite playing against one of Africa’s football giants.

He said: “We played a very good game. We created chances, but we couldn’t convert them.”

He also expressed his dismay about the results, stating: “We are very disappointed. We thought we had a good game, but we squandered the chances.”
