The Gambian Dutch Lions FC beat Brikama United FC 2-1 in a dramatic encounter played at the Live Your Dream Football Field in Basori.

Gambian Dutch Lions’ talisman Gibril Sima broke the deadlock with a sublime goal in the 33rd minutes. Brikama United had a chance to level the scores before half-time but Sainey Bojang missed a penalty from 12 yards.

Lamin Sibi Jatta restored parity in the 59th minute when he bundled home a cross from Ebrima Sanyang. However, Kebba Njie scored an individual solo goal to regain the Dutch Lion’s lead in the 64th minute.

Brikama United thought they restored parity once again when Almameh Bojang’s header appeared to cross the goal line but both the referee and his assistant failed to award the goal.

Omar Cham, the gaffer for Gambian Dutch Lions FC, told the press his side deserved the victory that ended the Satayba Boys‘ undefeated run in the league.

“It’s a very deserved victory. If you look at the first half, we controlled the game [and] scored. We came again in the second half, we controlled the game and scored, so I can say it’s a very deserved victory.

“It’s the tactical discipline, we stayed together as a team, we played behind the ball. Brikama United have been in the first division for so long so we have to respect them and it was not an easy game for us. Despite this, we dominated the most part of the game, so the tactical discipline paid off and we won comfortably,” Coach Cham explained.
