A Gambian man, who was arrested by Senegalese forces in January during the skirmishes with Casamance rebels, is still “critically ill in hospital”.

Fabakary Bojang was among a group of Gambians arrested along the country’s southern border and taken to Senegal for questioning after being mistaken for rebels.

He was later freed and returned to The Gambia. However since his returned hie has been suffering from ill health, according to Almami Gibba, an activist and politician in Brikama.

Gibba, who filed nomination for the April parliamentary elections today, told reporters that Fabakary Bojang has been hospitalised since his release in February.

“I am saying to you immediately I step out of this IEC office; I am going to the hospital. Why? Because Fabakary Bojang who was kidnapped and sent to Senegal for days or weeks. Today he is in a sick bed. He cannot even talk nor even do his functions,” he said.

Gibba claimed he is contesting the parliamentary election next month to fight “injustice in the country.”
