Gambian defensive-midfielder Sulayman Marreh has turned down head coach Tom Saintfiet’s call to national duty against Congo.

The 27-year-old player said he turned down the call because he is not currently playing as expected for his club.

“I was called to play for my country but I can’t come because I am not playing currently. It is not fair to come and play for your country if you are not at your best,” he said.

Sulayman Marreh plays for Belgian First Division A club Gent.
