A Gambian migrant has died in Napoli, Italy two months after sustaining a life-threatening head injury.

The migrant identified as Kabiru Njie succumbed to his injury on Sunday.

He was seriously injured after he fell off a storey building while escaping a fire that has engulfed his flat.

Alhagie Njie, a brother to the deceased, has begged for support from Gambians to repatriate the remains of his brother to Gambia for proper burial.

“I am Alhagie Njie, my brother Kabiru Njie died in an Italian hospital after he fell off a storey building and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He spent two months at the hospital but later died of his injuries,” the distraught Alhagie Njie told Gambiana.

According to Alhagie Njie, the tragic accident happened when a house his brother was in caught fire, adding as they tried to escape “he felt through the window injuring his head.

“For God’s sake. I am appealing to everyone to support me by repatriating his dead body to The Gambia. Anyone who can help, I am appealing for support to take his dead body back home in The Gambia for burial.

“We are appealing to anyone who can help to repatriate this young man’s dead body. This is very sad. I lost my two parents and my only younger brother who I was living with in Italy has also died.

“We don’t mind any kind of help in this Holy Month of Ramadan. We need both your financial support and prayers to help us  repatriate Alhagie body to the Gambia for proper burial,” he said.

Meanwhile, a friend of Alhagie Njie also begged for support to bring home his body, saying “Alhagie is now going through hardship because he doesn’t want his brother to be buried in Italy. He wants his brother to be laid next to his parents [in Gambia].”
